I think that a lot of tumblr would benefit from reading peepo choo idk

Lost: I don’t know the context of this comic since I don’t read much manga (correct me if I’m wrong) but one thing I will say that is problematic about this is that PoC in the US whether or not they were born in raised in the US for years or where here for generations, we are not seen as Americans which I’m ignorantly assuming that the Milton character is supposed to be representing. Maybe he’s representing ignorant non-East Asian peoples in general I’m not sure. But I think that’s something to keep in mind.

With that being said, I think this can start great dialogue between PoC when it comes to us appropriating each other’s cultures, which does happen a lot. And yes PoC can appropriate too! When I used to run fucknofetishization I’ve encounter many Black people who appropriated and fetishized East cultures. And also fetishized East Asian peoples. In fact I used to follow some popular PoC bloggers who did/do.

This is not just a white people thing, while they may make up most of the fandom (?) they aren’t the only ones doing problematic and racist things. This needs to be addressed. Making excuses like I’ve seen people already do with this comic does not help whatsoever.

We need to create dialogues between us because it’s about damn time we people of color started valuing intra-poc relationships, otherwise how are we going to move forward?

I came to the U.S. with my grandmother at the age of 15. Our family became separated, some sent back to South Korea and unable to return to America. I was living by myself at the age of 17. At the time, I thought a visa was just something you could always renew, like a passport.

When it was time for college, I discovered my undocumented status, and it was devastating. Thankfully, I was able to go to college on a full private scholarship, but after graduating, my undocumented status made itself felt: I had no access to financial aid, no money to pay for graduate school, and no way to legally work. I nearly broke under the weight of my undocumented status. I lived in this invisible bubble, screaming inside: “Please, someone save me”.

Currently, I am granted Deferred Action and have a work authorization. I am a member of RAISE and am working at MinKwon Center for Community Action as a youth program associate, all in an effort to organize young Asian Americans working for immigration reform. In the movement, I found my lost identity. The young, passionate, and brave kid is now back, as is a sense of hope: in the future, I hope to work as a research neuroscientist.

Saying that people of color cannot show any visible blushing is a big fat myth that only proves how little people actually know about skin tones.

I have seen a lot of skin-tone palettes that includes dark skin, but it is very rarely put in use as examples. And many times I’ve found them to only appear monochrome, while darker skin tones are just as rich in tone variation as fair skin.

And just to be extra nice, I even added the basic colors I used in these two examples. A big protip is to start with the darkest tone as a base and then work to light tones. Use the highlights sparingly, they should not be large but more like small spots. Dark skin is more “reflective”, meaning small highlights pop out more than on lighter skin tones.

I made this set mainly for all the anime artists out there who probably would love to color more poc characters but don’t really know if it’d work out as kawaii as their usual stuff.

Today I found out that this guy I dated shortly is in a new relationship with another asian person so I did a little digging and apparently his last few relationships have all been with asian people. When I was with him, I never felt fetishized but this does seem really problematic to me. The thing is that I’ve been thinking a lot about it, and I’ve had this fear that maybe some day, some of the guys I’ve dated will say something along the lines of “yeah, I dated an asian once, too. In college” as if I’m some sort of college experiment. But when it comes down to it, I don’t know if I’d rather date a fetishist or someone who thinks of me as some sort of “other” to spice up their otherwise perfectly unblemished, white, love lives.

I live in a primarily white town, and I’ve generally only dated white men, but reading this blog has made me ask myself some really tough questions, that I don’t really have the answers to. So I guess what I’m asking is, when dating primarily white men, what are we supposed to expect?

I’m going to take a crack at answering this, even though it’s an incredibly uncomfortable subject.

By racist standards, we’re supposed to be flattered by fetishist attention. Whenever I complained about that kind of behavior (e.g. men introducing themselves to me by saying “I’ve got a thing for Asian ladies”) even if I used mild language, the general response would be, “what’s wrong with you, that you can’t take a compliment?” I was accused of being a bitch, a prude, a racist, even a sexual fascist.

We’re supposed to expect, seek, and be grateful for this racist positive attention. But if we follow this standard, it’s also incredibly psychologically damaging.

So my advice is don’t expect it. Have a standard that anyone you date should not be a fetishist. You deserve better.

That’s easier said than done :-( so in practical terms:

1) try to weed them out early on. Say plain things like “I don’t like fetishists,” or “fuck, I hate yellow fever,” and see how they react.

2) expand your dating pool. Dating Asian men and other MOC can be difficult because there are also plenty of MOC fetishists, and even if they aren’t fetishists, we ALL still have to struggle with intra-POC and internalized racism. One of the most humiliating experiences of my life was explaining to an Asian man who was a close friend that I wanted to be more than friends with him… but he wasn’t interested, because he was getting into a relationship with a white woman who’d been a former friend. I don’t blame him, I don’t blame her, I don’t blame myself. It still hurt. But dating men who are not white can also be very relieving, in terms of knowing you’re not meeting racist expectations.

3) Stay far away from weeaboos. Don’t meet guys at conventions, anime clubs, almost anything to do with Japanese culture. Same goes for martial arts. Many male fetishists are obsessed either with anime or martial arts.

4) have high standards, but be pragmatic. Sometimes it’s impossible to tell if a person is a fetishist. Sometimes a guy is half a fetishist, but sees the light and realizes what a disgusting racist he is, and quietly changes. This stuff is really really really hard. Blame them, blame racism, but don’t blame yourself.

On this day in 1954, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously that racial segregation in public schools violated the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution, which says that no state may deny equal protection of the laws to any person within its jurisdiction.

Although the decision did not succeed in fully desegregating public education in the United States, it put the Constitution on the side of racial equality and galvanized the nascent civil rights movement into a full revolution.
